Drill-Xpress (NEW-SEPTEMBER 2009)
Description: Drill-Xpress™ is a liquid drilling fluid additive designed to provide fluid properties that are superior to conventional Bentonite based systems.
Application: No mixing equipment required. No technical expertise required. No time to “hydrate”. Packaged in pails or totes, not bags. Excellent viscosity and fluid loss characteristics and shale hydration control. Excellent cement spacer for Surface hole. Drill-Xpress™ is a liquid product. No mixing equipment is required as it is added directly to fresh water or brine in the mud tank above the agitator. All of the components are in five gallon pails or 250 gallon totes reducing the number of products on location and the chances of mixing mistakes. Drill-Xpress™ disperses readily, without fish eyes and screen blinding.   Conventional clay based systems have higher MBT values, are heavier and often do not have time to hydrate and yield effectively when drilling shallow wells. Drill-Xpress™ yields quickly allowing for extended water drilling. Using Drill-Xpress™ ensures that the production zone will be protected with a low filtrate / fluid loss drilling mud. The polymers in the product break naturally after about 3 weeks.   The Drill-Xpress™ system effectively inhibits shale hydration resulting in better cleaning efficiency, improved caliper and log quality, more efficient cementing and ground water protection.   The Drill-Xpress™ system costs are similar to a conventional Bentonite system and it can be used on concurrent wells. Product can be supplied in 250 gallon totes to provide a complete “system” for drilling surface hole. Typical product requirement is 500 gallons per 1,500 bbl system. The Problem: Often shallow wells are drilled with water prior to “mudding up” for the production zone. When the drilling fluid is changed to mud, mixing and hydrating of chemical additives can be inefficient, leading to poor zone protection and difficulty cleaning during logging and casing operations.
Mixing: No mixing equipment is required as it is added directly to fresh water or brine in the mud tank above the agitator. The product can be also added directly into the displacement tanks of the cement unit at a rate of five gallons per 10 bbl's of water.
